Motorola Finally Bringing Gingerbread to European Milestone 2

Users of Motorola's Droid 2 on Verizon Wireless saw their phones receive an update to Gingerbread late this summer. That release followed Motorola's announcement from back in May, outlining its plans to deliver Gingerbread to the majority of its lineup of Droid devices. That's well and good for Verizon users in the US, but what about owners of the phone's international version, the Milestone 2? According to Motorola, their days of waiting are nearly over.

Motorola took to Facebook to announce plans to begin Gingerbread distribution to Milestone 2 users in Europe. The first updates will start arriving tomorrow, and continue to reach new users as the scope of distribution proceeds in stages. The company also took the opportunity to further dismiss any possibility of the Milestone 1 getting an official update past
Eclair, which hardly seems fair considering the Droid in the States saw support up to Froyo.

It's still unfortunate to see this type of fragmentation – where owners of the same basic hardware aren't receiving updates on anywhere near the same schedule – but we suppose this release is better late than never.
