Samsung Core Trademark For Smartphones And Tablets Revealed

Samsung is expected to launch a new quad core smartphone at MWC 2012 next month, the Samsung Galaxy S III, and now a new trademark filing for tablets and smartphones has been revealed called the ‘Samsung Core’.
It isn’t clear as yet what Samsung intends to use the ‘Samsung Core’ trademark for, whether it will be a single device or the company may intend to use it for a number of devices like they did with their Samsung Galaxy trademark.

As soon as we get some more information on what Samsung has planned for the ‘Samsung Core’ name we will let you guys know.

Google Removes Siri for Android From the Market

After Apple officially announced the iPhone 4S and one of its main software features, Siri, a lot of voice-enabled personal assistant applications have surfaced in the Android Market. Developer "Official App" has listed Siri for Android up in the Market but Google was quick to yank it.

Mountain View not only removed Siri for Android but also all other applications from the same developer, Official App. Siri for Android, which surfaced online on December 28, used Apple's own icon and it was reportedly installed on more than 1,000 devices. The name of the developer as well as the name of the application could have very well fooled some users into thinking that they're indeed looking at an official application (port) for Android.

Google was quick to act and removed the software bit which is something we need to applaud but it would be even better if Mountain View could do an
a priori check or approval rather than an a posteriori one.

HTC Releases Source Code For Sprint EVO Design 4G

HTC has been quite busy these last couple of days, allowing users to unlock bootloaders for all post-September 2011 smartphones (as well as for the Thunderbolt and Incredible 2). The Taiwanese manufacturer also allowed users to unlock the Sprint EVO Design 4G at the end of November and now we have some more great news for heavy modders, hackers and tweakers.

If you head over to HTCdev you will be able to download the source code for the Sprint EVO Design 4G. The version available is 2.6.35 and we all know what this means: the techy ones can take a look inside and find some interesting bits which could be either extracted or turned into nice little hacker-cookies for all you tweaking needs.

No More Windows Phone Unlocks Via ChevronWP7 Labs For Now

ChevronWP7 Labs was the only Microsoft-approved way for users to unlock their Windows Phones for $9, aside the Microsoft AppHub where developers get unlocks in exchange of $99. It looks like the AppHub will remain the only solution, at least for the near future.

The ChevronWP7 Labs team said on Twitter that once the unlock tokens sell out, they "don't (currently) have plans to restock". Later on confirmation came that "ChevronWP7 Labs enters the New Year with 10,000 token sales under our belt". "Our agreement with Microsoft was to sell no more than 10,000 tokens. Our team doesn’t currently have plans to renegotiate this number, although it’s a matter we’re still discussing", they said.

This means that currently you will only be able to unlock your device via the "developer" way, of course, unless ChevronWP7 and Microsoft agree to hand out more tokens or someone else takes action and starts offering another unlocking solution. We (still) don't know the exact
Windows Phone numbers in order to calculate a percentage but it sure looks like users want to embrace homebrew (or were there also a lot of devs that wanted to check out the platform and their apps before going to the AppHub?)
