Google Removes Siri for Android From the Market

After Apple officially announced the iPhone 4S and one of its main software features, Siri, a lot of voice-enabled personal assistant applications have surfaced in the Android Market. Developer "Official App" has listed Siri for Android up in the Market but Google was quick to yank it.

Mountain View not only removed Siri for Android but also all other applications from the same developer, Official App. Siri for Android, which surfaced online on December 28, used Apple's own icon and it was reportedly installed on more than 1,000 devices. The name of the developer as well as the name of the application could have very well fooled some users into thinking that they're indeed looking at an official application (port) for Android.

Google was quick to act and removed the software bit which is something we need to applaud but it would be even better if Mountain View could do an
a priori check or approval rather than an a posteriori one.
