We rarely see Android and iOS working together on anything. Well, that changed on Christmas Day. Analytics firm Flurry tracked mobile device activations in the first 20 days of December and on average, we were looking at around 1.5 million daily. That’s iOS and Android activations, together. Well the pair of OS’s did much more than that Christmas Day. Final numbers from Flurry put the number of smartphone/smart-device activations at 6.8 million. That’s a 353% jump on a single day. Sweet.
That’s not all folks! Application downloads on both the mobile platforms grew by 125% putting them at 242 million on our favorite holiday. The average for the first 20days was 108 million. Even more surprising is that while Google celebrated its 3 billion cumulative application download statistic earlier this year, but the firm projects that the number will go up to 10 billion before the year is through. Flurry also pegs iOS to exceed the 10 billion app download mark by year’s end.
