The browser wars this year have been intense. Users have lost track of version numbers when it comes to Google Chrome and it’s a similar case with Firefox, with their new rapid release cycle. Firefox 8 was released to public just a few days back. As expected, Firefox 9 should be out soon and a beta release has now been made available. Unlike previously where the entire browser would be overhauled, it’s not the case anymore with the rapid releases. The new version adds a feature called Type Interference, which should improve JavaScript performance by quite a bit. There’s also Mac OS X Lion support, and the user interface matches the OS X look. There’s also gesture support which allows users to use the browser better on two monitors. There’s also something called Chunked XHR support which allows quicker access to a large XHR download request, which means faster AJAX apps. There’s also a Firefox 10 Aurora build available for those interested in looking into future Firefox versions. Users can download the beta version of Firefox 9 and the Aurora builds from the official release channel download page.
