EEE series tablet users have plenty of reason to rejoice as Asus has released a statement confirming that the EEE tablets will support Google’s latest 4.0 operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich. No dates for availability have been announced as of now. In a statement released by the company, Asus has announced the following
"Are you waiting for Ice Cream Sandwich? Good news for ASUS customers. Google recently announced the latest update for Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, which brings some exciting new features and capabilities. At ASUS, we pride ourselves on delivering a great experience with our products, thanks to frequent updates that further enhance our products’ capabilities. We’re delighted to confirm support for Ice Cream Sandwich on the ASUS Eee Pad Family – our aim is to bring the latest Android update to the Eee Pad Series, but at this time we are unable to set a date for its release. Please stay tuned for more news on our Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade plans."
Acer has also announced that they intend to get the new OS on their A100 and A500 tabs by January 2012, as reported by Android OS. So, Asus and Acer are first in line to announce support and availability updates for their current range of tablets. It’ll be interesting to see which manufacturer is the first to actually get the update.
