Everywhere you go in most parts of the US, you will run across hoards of people that are texting no matter where they are. According to an analyst from M.I.G. Research, Tero Kuittinen, the number of text messages being sent is actually in decline on some parts of the world. Kuittinen cites Finnish Mobile network Sonera and the number of text messages sent on Christmas Eve as proof.
According to the analyst there were 8.5 million text messages sent on Christmas Eve 2011, which is down to the tune of millions compared to the number of texts sent out on Christmas Eve 2010 when 10.9 million texts were sent. Another Finnish carrier called DNA also notes a significant decline as well with a loss of about 300,000 texts on Christmas Eve.
Texts also went down on Christmas Day in Hong Kong with a decline of nearly 14% from the previous year on the same day. Australia saw a decline in texting of about 9% according to one blogger. The reason for the decline in texting is thought to be alternatives like Facebook and twitter. The US is still seeing the number of text users grow for now, but the same decline is expected to hit the US carriers like Verizon and AT&T in the next two years.
The Motorola Xoom was the first tablet to run on Google’s Honeycomb. It came fashionably late to the party in India, and it didn’t exactly turn heads. Also, it was quite expensively priced back then. Now, they’ve got a substantial price cut that might help the Xoom’s fate a little. As reported by Android OS, the Wi-Fi 32GB version is now priced at Rs. 21,500 on Koovs, while the Wi-Fi+ 3G version is available for Rs.25,000. Flipkart is selling the Wi-Fi + 3G version for Rs. 26,850.

For those who’ve forgotten (we wouldn’t blame you, considering the flurry of tablets that are being launched) the Xoom is packed with a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual core processor and 1GB of RAM. It sports a 10.1-inch display and will get an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade soon enough. Also, there’s full support for 1080p video playback and there’s an HDMI slot as well. This handset oozes sex appeal with its stylish looks and form factor. Out of the box, it comes with Android Gingerbread. Sony Ericsson has put plans in place to upgrade the handset to Ice Cream Sandwich. The 8MP AF camera featuring an ExmoR sensor comes with an LED flash and it will surely take care of your photographic needs. Though this handset came out in the first half of the year, it definitely deserves a nomination.
